Victoria Falls is predicted to achieve cyber city status by August, in time for the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembly in Zimbabwe.
Walter Mzembi, minister of tourism and hospitality, spoke at an event in Harare on Friday, July 6, in Harare, where network operator Econet Wireless handed sponsored communication equipment to the ministry.
Zimbabwe and Zambia will co-host the UNWTO General Assembly event with Econet Wireless as a major communication and infrastructure sponsor.
A communication command centre will be established at Victoria Falls, among other technology investments, enabling faultless communication during the event to take place in Victoria Falls and Livingstone.
Mzembi said: “Victoria will be a cyber city by the time we commence the proceedings of the UNWTO General Assembly on August 24, 2013,”Bulawayo News24 reported.
He continued, emphasising the important role of security and comfort to visiting delegates.
