IBM announces Morocco Global Delivery Center

IBM will be creating up to 400 information technology roles in Morocco once it has completed a new delivery centre.

According to IBM, the centre will help deliver a range of innovative technology services to Morocco and across French-speaking Africa.

HumanIPO reported last month how Serigne Barro, partner and general manager at People Input, believed Francophone Africa needed more technological support because currently they are underserved compared to English speaking nations on the continent.

The IBM centre will also offer clients services related to systems integration, application maintenance and high value application development as well as harness the benefits of technologies such as big data, cloud and mobile by delivering flexible software capability.

Abdallah Rachidi Alaoui, country general manager for IBM Morocco, said the centre is part of the company’s commitment to providing high value technology services in the region.

“The centre is part of a broad program of investment that IBM is making across Africa and reflects IBM’s commitment to providing the high-value technology services required by clients in Morocco and French-speaking Africa,” Alaoui said.

“It also highlights IBM’s commitment to partnering with local universities and academic institutions to deliver high value skills highly relevant in today’s marketplace.”

The centre will also help in providing employment to technology graduates, experienced IT professionals with backgrounds in engineering, science, mathematics and computer science as well as offer graduate assignments and internships.

The government of Morocco has welcomed the news with the minister for industry Abdelkader Amara saying the centre will go a long way in helping in the development of high skilled professionals worthy of competing in global markets.

“The launch and successful development of this technology centre, that is expected to grow in the coming years, will result in a culture that will foster and promote a stronger knowledge-based export economy for Morocco,” Amara said.

Advertisement for jobs in the centre is expected later this month in coordination with the National Agency for Employment and Skills Development (ANAPEC) and the Education Ministry.
