Absa launches mobile app for BlackBerry

Absa has made its mobile application available on BlackBerry devices, offering BlackBerry users the same benefits to those carrying Apple and Android phones.

The app is available from today from BlackBerry App World for devices running BB5, BB6 and BB7.

Arrie Rautenbach, head of Absa’s retail bank, said the app, which has been downloaded more than 133,000 times on the other platforms it supports, allows customers to check balances, move funds, pay beneficiaries and purchase airtimes.

“As a security feature, the device is required to be linked to an Absa Online banking profile,” he said. “Devices that are lost or changed can be de-authorised while new devices that are identified by the app will be required to be and authorised by the customer.”

HumanIPO reported last month Absa’s payment app had reached ZAR1 billion (US$98.7 million) in transactions, making it one of the most popular apps in South Africa, with 100,000 downloads within two months of its release contributing to the growing financial success.
