Nigerian app trying to spread organised traffic information

The founder of Traffix.com.ng has told HumanIPO the web app was created to solve the challenge of disorganisation associated with popular Nigerian traffic-dedicated Twitter handles.

“I was influenced by Twitter accounts such as @gidi_traffic and @trafficbutter but I was displeased with the disorganisation of the information. We’re just organising the information and making it more useful,” Sadiq said.

The petroleum engineering graduate of University of Texas emphasised the challenges users usually face before they can get useful Lagos traffic information online and how Traffix.com.ng will solve them.

“First of all you have to sift through the rest of the noise in Twitter to get to the juicy, relevant content. We make it just about traffic. It’s a place for productivity,” Sadiq said.

“You can follow specific areas within Lagos and receive alerts from just those places, which makes a lot of sense to me.”

According to him, users are also rewarded through the medals system.

“We offer various badges to members based on their contributions, such as Road Marshall and Chairman. Currently, I’m the only Road Marshall and there are no chairmen yet, hopefully we get one soon,” he told HumanIPO.

He added that the service was built as web app for easy optimisation on mobile devices.

He said: “I call it a web app, because it’s optimised across mobile devices, while still being a full-fledged website. There are features only accessible on the full website, such as a map with the colour-coded traffic pins to indicate the traffic in that particular location.

“A web app is basically a website on computers and a mobile app on mobile devices. It adapts to screen sizes. It’s versatile. Think about how Facebook is when you open it on your desktop and when you open it on your mobile browser (safari, opera, etc). It behaves differently, it looks different and feels different.

“Imagine the hassle of having the full features displayed on limited screen size of the mobile app.”
