Water consumers in Tanzania to pay bills electronically

Dar es Salaam Water and Sewerage (DAWASCO) has introduced an online billing system allowing residents to pay their bills electronically.

The Daily News reports the new system will be effective this month, and according to the company’s chief executive officer (CEO) Jackson Midala customers in the all of the stations can pay their bills via mobile cash transaction services such as Tigo Pesa, M-Pesa, Airtel Money and ZANTEL’s EZY PESA.

Additionally customers can use the banking system at banks such as CRDB, NMB, Postal Bank, Akiba Commercial Bank (ACB), EXIM, Barclays and BOA Bank.

“They could as well pay their bills through Maxmalipo and Selcom services,” said Midala, adding that the objective was to improve services and cut down long queues associated with paying bills at DAWASCO’s stations.

“This new system will help customers to make payment at any place or point even outside Dar es Salaam and outside the country,” he said.

The CEO was however quick to point out that only customers with bank accounts at the above mentioned banks could process payment. He advised consumers to use the system because it is simple and affordable to all users.
