A group of former Ghanaian MPs have criticised the national computer policy, saying it has been inefficient and caused wastage.
Kosi Kedem, president of the Forum for Former Members of Parliament, picked out the poor and inefficient use of the Customs Excise and Preventive Service automated system for customs data, the Ministry of Education’s integrated personal pay database and the Ghana Commercial Bank computer system for particular criticism.
Kedem was speaking at an ICT training programme for former members of parliament, Ghana News Agency reported, and also criticised the way internet is used.
“We look on helplessly as our websites are used as a platform for insults, promotion of tribalism and political and religious bigotry and intolerance,” he said.
He attacked the government for not having a national computer and IT policy and said giving out free computers to schools would not achieve anything if there was no policy in place.
Kedem added he believed a national advisory committee on ICT should be set up to work with the government.
