The new web app providing drivers in Lagos with information on traffic congestion in the city has recorded 1,200 users in the first two days after launching.
Traffix.com.ng is the fruition of an idea by Sadiq – a petroleum engineering graduate from the University of Texas.
In an exclusive interview with HumanIPO, he said the web app is based on crowdsourcing offering residents of Lagos state an opportunity to help others out.
“Our information is crowdsourcing from like-minded citizens. It goes to show Lagosians are actually a very helpful people. We enjoy contributing and being part of something bigger than ourselves,” Sadiq told HumanIPO.
On how the app works, he said users are required to log in, after which they can either rate the traffic situation in their area or reply to a fellow commuters request for an update.
He revealed that he had thought of creating the app more than a year ago, but only began work on it in March this year.
He said: “I’ve been thinking about Traffix for over a year and just recently (March) started to draw it out and meet with developers. I hired some Nigerian contractors to build it for me.”
He described Traffix as a versatile web app that easily adapts to the screen size.
“It is optimized across mobile devices, while still being a full-fledged website. There are features only accessible on the full website, such as a map with the color-coded traffic pins to indicate the traffic in that particular location,” Sadiq told HumanIPO.
