South African film distributor Ster-Kinekor has started converting all 438 of its cinemas to the latest digital technology, allowing South Africans to enjoy the release of a new international film at the same time as elsewhere in the world.
The company said it has already completed the digital conversion of its Irene Mall and Sterland sites, while one cinema also supports 3D projection.
“South Africans can now participate first-hand in the hype of a new blockbuster release, and be a part of the global conversation as it trends across the world,” Ster-Kinekor said.
“A new era in cinema viewing is now a reality.”
Ster-Kinekor said the cinema experience will “undergo a profound change” as a result of the digital conversion.
“The picture quality is heightened while the state-of-the-art surround sound greatly enhances the overall viewing experience, as each cinema now comes standard with the very latest digital technology and superior equipment,” the company said.
