SABC and partners start messaging service for Mandela

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) together with Telkom and the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory has launched a messaging service for South Africans to leave words of support for Nelson Mandela.

The messaging service has been designed to accommodate all eleven official languages of South Africa, with phone numbers designated to each, and can be called from anywhere in the country.

It has also been designed to accommodate international callers, with numbers dedicated to Kiswahili, Chinyanja, Silozi, French and English speakers.

The SABC invites members of the public to record a message for Mandela in under one minute, some of which will be broadcasted on the SABC’s platforms.

The Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory will archive all the messages for future generations.

The calls made from Telkom landlines as well as mobile numbers will be free of charge, while standard rates will apply to all other calls made.

The SABC has provided details for all the relevant numbers to call on their website.
