Sonatel, the Senegalese telecommunications company, has recorded a rise in first half net profit, which the company puts down to increasing mobile data usage.
Reuters reports first half net profit rose from CFA87 billion (US$174 million) to CFA91 billion (US$182 million) compared to the same period 12 months ago, while turnover rose by 10.3 per cent.
The operator has one million mobile internet users across its operations in four countries – Senegal, Guinea, Mali and Guinea-Bissau.
HumanIPO reported in February Sonatel’s annual net profit rose by 11 per cent to 171 billion CFA francs (US$343 million).
