Primary South African multilingual phrase translation app PhraZApp is to rebrand as Aweza in a bid to improve its user experience (ux).
Audio clips in all 11 South Africa languages will be available as an added feature after the relaunch, with various pictorial, object and concept translations as additional novelties.
To on September 12, “a beautifully crafted and user friendly interface to accompany its sleek new brand and name” will become available, the company announced.
Aweza will be accessible for owners of BlackBerry 10, Android devices and Windows Phone by the time of launch, while an iOS app will follow soon after.
Glenn Stein, founder of phraZApp, has partnered with CSIR, a company which developed human speech synthesis software supporting the 11 official South African languages.
“This technology makes it possible for app users to not just see a written translation of their requested phrase, but to also hear it read out loud to assist them with the correct pronunciation of challenging words,” phraZApp explained.
The original name, as derived from phrase, ZA (South Africa) and app, will be replaced with a name based on a more colloquial greeting ‘awe’.
The app has been downloaded more than a thousand times from the BlackBerry App World and Vodacom App Store.
Stein has also won third place in the Vodacom AppStar competition, first place in the BlackBerry 10JAM Lightning Pitch Competition and became the MTN App of the Year ‘Best Garage Developer’.
