MTN’s CFO resigns after allegations

MTN Group’s chief financial officer, Nazir Patel, has resigned with immediate effect after “certain allegations” were made against him, according to the giant network operator.

The statement was released to shareholders of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) listed company at the close of trading today and Brett Goschen as already been appointed as his replacement.

MTN Group said: “Patel explained to the Company that he does not wish his continued employment with the Company to prejudice the Company in respect of certain allegations made against him, which are subject to an ongoing investigation which had been commissioned by the Company.”

No further details of the allegations have been released.

Goschen moves back to MTN Group after service as MTN Nigeria chief executive officer (CEO) since 2011 and has also been CEO of MTN Ghana and chief financial officer at MTN Nigeria.

The statement added: “The Board is confident that Mr Goschen has the appropriate expertise and experience for his new role.”
