The launch of a high definition (HD) satellite television (TV) broadcasting service for South Africa has been announced by Platco Digital, to be available from October 2013.

Platco Digital and e-tv have collaborated to release the service later this year, while a roadshow is running from today (Monday) until August 2.

A variety channels will be offered to South African viewers, as well as the rest of Africa in the future.

“Platco aims to acquire as many channels as possible to ensure sustainability and will offer both standard and high definition resolutions,” the satellite TV operator said.

Using the same satellites as Top TV, the once-off installation will cost subscribers approximately ZAR1,899 (US$193).

Satellite installation specialist Ellies Holdings will be conducting installations.
