South African e-learning academy The Training Room Online is considering partnership with Batswana role players to develop its programme outside of the country.
Cheryl Muir, learning specialist at The Training Room Online, revealed the institution’s current focus in an interview with HumanIPO.
Active since 2008, the establishment provides education to those aspiring to start a career in online education.
“The idea is because we work in online learning as an online learner provider, there are a lot of shortages in this industry learning space,” Muir said.
She explained skills and lack of qualifications are seen as the biggest challenge in the industry, which they are helping to solve.
Engagement with Batswana stakeholders are ongoing at the moment, aiming at a possible partnership and expansion of the e-learning training.
She explained existing government support and strategies simplify implementation of online training, whereas in South Africa, development mostly depends on corporate funding.
Muir said: “They have…an infrastructure ready to develop it – quicker than South Africa because of government input.”
Locally, new ways of getting information across is being looked into, as well as new learning styles.
“Styles change because of the amounts of technology that we are continually bombarded with,” Muir said.
The learning specialist is also leading The Creative Technology Hub, The Training Room Online’s new training academy.
Through the hub, young people are paired with corporate sponsors to enable studies for careers in technology.
“Her passion is training for careers on the cutting edge of technology that [some] might not even know existed, like e-learning design,” colleague Catherine Hayden, public relations manager at The Training Room Online, told HumanIPO.
Hayden explained The Creative Technology Hub bridges the skills gap of South Africa’s technology sector by providing practical training in areas such as app development, e-learning design, production and other creative technology.
