First Bank Nigeria has warned customers against phishing attacks, following emails falsely claiming the necessity of online updates.
A batch of emails to First Bank clients requesting confidential information for online updates to accounts was identified as a scam by Babatunde Lasaki, head of media and external relations.
Lasaki explained the bank has set up practical strategies against malicious hackers, such as sending SMS alerts and emails as warnings.
“Immediately we go after them and shut down their websites,” he said, Technology Banker reported.
He added: “Anytime people get such scam emails, the IT people get them and immediately go after that website and shut it down.”
The head furthermore elaborated on the bank’s awareness campaigns for the education of customers to stay alert to threats.
