Alain Roger Pierre Coefe has been appointed board chairman for Airtel’s operations in Burkina Faso.
Coefe has extensive telecommunications experience, but has also worked in the Burkina Faso government since 1984 and held ministerial positions including communications.
He has also worked the United Nations and is the president of the Professional Association of Information Technologies and Communication.
Tiemoko Coulibaly, Airtel’s chief executive officer (CEO) for Africa’s Francophone region, said: “Airtel Burkina launched its 3G platform in May. Dr. Coefe’s mandate is to guide the local management team as it expands its operations, ushering a new 3G era whilst ensuring a smooth transition following the launch of the platform.”
Airtel has operations in 17 African countries and has more than 63.7 million customers across the continent.
