Samsung will intensify its focus on display panel and semi-conductors in an attempt to balance income and lessen its dependency on Galaxy smartphone sales.

Currently the world’s largest smartphone maker, Samsung has sold more than 10 million Galaxy S4s since it was launched in March.

However, the company is in the process of shifting its focus to generate income from other areas to not be as reliant on the revenue from handsets, smartphones and tablet computers.

The decision follows investors’ opinion of the smartphone market becoming saturated.

Emerging markets, such as mobile dominated-Africa, is still catching up with smartphone integration.

Although this secures the need for smartphones, the cheaper models are more popular in these non-first world markets, which is not a prime source of income to manufacturers such as Samsung and Apple.

Apple sold 31.2 million iPhones last quarter, while Samsung led with 72.4 million shipments between January and June 2013.

Samsung’s share price has dropped 14 per cent since the beginning of the year, as the market becomes more competitive with more variety available.
