Kenya’s Safaricom has launched a new subscription internet bundle allowing subscribers access to Twitter, WhatsApp and Facebook for KSh10 a day.
The daily access social internet bundle, Chattitude, will target the growing youth market that has taken to social media for their daily communication, but has been hindered by the cost of accessing the internet on a daily basis.
“The youth have really been behind the increasing demand for data, to support their preferred communication channels,” said Bob Collymore, Safaricom chief executive officer (CEO).
“With this campaign, we are not only offering a solution to the cost associated with access, but we’ve gone a step further to map it to relevant content.”
The KSh10 daily bundle automatically renews every 24-hours and in the event that the bundle fails to renew due to lack of funds then access to the three sites will be charged at normal cost.
Safaricom uses over 20 million megabytes every day on its network with 9.1 million customers using data and more than 1.3 million already on smartphone.
Over the years Safaricom’s data revenue has been growing where the firm recorded a 23 per cent growth in 2013 compared to 13 per cent in 2009.
