Members of South African union Solidarity will not be striking at Telkom, though negotiations are still underway to come with terms with part state-owned fixed line provider.
HumanIPO reported on Monday Solidarity had questioned Telkom’s math skills when calculating each of the three negotiating unions’ share of their workforce,while they were also considering legal action amid claims of sabotage.
The operator entered an agreement with the Communication Workers Union (CWU) last week, claiming it as the majority union to finalise the Telkom employees matter.
Following the completion of the mandating process, Solidarity is set to continue its discussions with Telkom.
Speaking to HumanIPO this morning, Marius Croucamp, spokesperson of Solidarity, said: “At this stage, we are not going to go on a strike. We are trying to resolve matters through discussions.”
Solidarity resumed its mandate on Monday, July 29, after allegedly being interrupted by sabotaged communication channels.
The South African Communication Union (SACU) has confirmed finishing its balloting process, though the outcome will only be announced later in the day after a scheduled meeting.
“We are meeting the company this morning (July 31) to discuss the concerns we are having,” a spokesperson from the South African Communications Union (SACU) told HumanIPO.
“We’ve got some concerns that we want to address with them and we have also finished our ballot process, which is going to go out later.”
