Vodacom releases iPhone 5c and 5s

iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c handsets are available to Vodacom customers in South Africa as of today (Friday), as the operator opens sales of the coveted devices.

Sales opened at Vodacom World Midrand at 5am this morning, with stores across the across the country making the handsets available from 9am onwards. Customers can also purchase the devices online.

The iPhones are initially only available for contract customers or in the form of an upgrade, and are not available for pre-paid customers.

The recommended selling price for the iPhone 5s is ZAR10,499 (US$1,026) for the 16GB device, ZAR11,799 (US$1,154) for the 32GB version, and ZAR13,299 (US$1,300) for the 64GB handset.

The iPhone 5c is selling at a recommended price of ZAR8,899 (US$870).

Vodacom has warned that stock is limited and will be distributed on a first come first served basis.

HumanIPO has previously reported on the race between operators to make the new iPhone models available in South Africa, with MTN South Africa, Telkom Mobile and Cell C also promising to launch the devices today.
