AccessKenya appoints Senanu deputy CEO

Kenyan internet and IT solutions provider AccessKenya Group has announced Kris Senanu has been appointed deputy chief executive officer (CEO), in addition to his role as managing director (MD) of the group’s internet division.

Senanu is to head up the company’s regional expansion under his new dual position, while also taking a lead in forming a go-to-market strategy.

“Senanu has great experience and skills to lead this expansion, our goal is to maintain our position as the leading provider of corporate internet and IT solutions as we push forward with our strategic growth,” said Jonathan Somen, AccessKenya’s group managing director and CEO.

Senanu has worked at AccessKenya for 13 years, and is to take a leading role in the company’s review and evaluation of new business models and potential products to bring into its offering to customers.

AccessKenya was acquired by South Africa’s Dimension Data last year, with 75 per cent of shareholders accepting the acquisition offer in early August, which rose to 89 per cent by the end of the month, with the remaining shareholders compulsorily bought out in January this year.

HumanIPO reported in January AccessKenya promised to connect five new Kenyan counties to its fibre and wireless networks within the first quarter of 2014, with plans to connect 15 further counties over the course of the year.

“We are also extending our fibre cable in Nairobi and the city limits, as well as in the northern and southern coast of Kenya,’ said Somen.

In this vein, in February the company announced it had acquired extra bandwidth capacity on the SEACOM undersea cable to support its plans to expand across Kenya and regionally.
