Google is running a special election-based Doodle on its South African domain as the country goes to the polls today.
The Doodle comprises of a ballot box in the colours of the South African flag at the centre, with individual letters of the word “Google” also in those colours, with the picture hyperlinked to election-based news.
Google, which has provided a portal dedicated to coverage of the vote, has launched Doodle’s for a number of important events across Africa in recent months.
Late last year, it ran Doodles celebrating the Ugandan and Nigerian independence day celebrations, while in March a Doodle on the South African homepage celebrated what would have been the birthday of Miriam Makeba, known as Mama Africa.
In April Google marked the birthday of the late Wangari Maathai with a Doodle in her honour across its Sub-Saharan browser pages.
Google also used a Doodle on its Kenya domain as citizens across the country voted in March’s general elections.
