Poor telecoms services in Nigeria becoming unbearable – subscribers

Nigeria’s National Association of Telecom Subscribers (NATCOMS) has expressed dissatisfaction with the continued deterioration in the quality of telecoms services in the country.

Service quality has been a source of controversy in Nigeria, with HumanIPO reporting in March operators MTN, Globacom and Airtel reluctantly paid a total of NGN647.5 million (US$4 million) in fines imposed on them by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for poor service quality.

NATCOMS president Chief Deolu Ogunbanjo said there had been no evident improvement, however, with poor service becoming unbearable.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, Ogunbanjo said the NCC should compel telecoms to improve on their services.

“Now that the subscribers are increasing, there is the need for adequate customer care agents to attend to customers’ issues promptly. Customers cannot enjoy better services from telecom operators if they cannot get response to their enquiries,” he said.
