South African part state-owned operator Telkom has cancelled a tender it advertised in February for the provision of video on demand (VoD) services, saying it will issue a new one based on a revised strategy.
HumanIPO reported in February Telkom had called for application for provision of VoD services, following initial reports it had held talks with companies including Netflix, Comcast and Naspers as it looks to launch the service.
“We have been progressing well with our efforts to deliver the ultimate connected home experience to South Africans,” Manelisa Mavuso, managing director of consumer services and retail marketing, said at the time.
“We believe that content has a major role to play in truly differentiating the Telkom offer and we are steaming ahead to deliver this to our customers as soon as possible.”
However, the company confirmed today it will be reissuing the tender.
“Telkom has decided to cancel the original tender for the provision of video on demand services, which was issued recently, because the company will be issuing a new tender for video on demand services. The new tender will be based on a business model which is more closely aligned to Telkom’s revised business strategy,” the company said.
