Microsoft is the latest company to begin preparing wearable technology for its customers, following the lead of Apple and Samsung in developing a smartwatch, according to a report.
Forbes reports the company will be making use of optical engineering expertise at its Xbox Kinect division to provide systems that continuously monitor a user’s heart rate, with the battery lasting up to two days in order to rival Samsung’s Gear Fit.
According to the report, the smartwatch will be able to integrate with iPhones and Samsung devices along with Windows Mobile handsets.
Since the appointment of Satya Nadella, Microsoft has moved towards opening up its platform, starting with offering Office on Apple’s iPad.
Numerous tech companies have launched smartwatches recently. Last year Sony launched its SmartWatch 2, saying it gave extra functionality to Android smartphones.
In the second half of 2013, Samsung launched its Galaxy Gear device in Germany, while earlier this year, Google announced the launch of Android Wear, which will initially focus on smartwatches.
