South African mobile social network Mxit has announced its latest version has been downloaded over 7 million times, despite a decline in monthly active users.
The company said since the release of Mxit 7 in November last year the company has seen a staggering number of downloads, with 55 per cent those users still active.
“There simply is no easier way to start a conversation with millions of young people in South Africa,” said Mxit chief executive officer (CEO) Francois Swart.
It said the daily average usage time per user has increased from 95 to 105 minutes.
“We are still unrivalled in terms of our ability to provide a smart experience for feature phone users. In the past year, we have sharpened our focus on smart applications, whilst maintaining interoperability on more than 8000 devices,” said Swart.
The company has been expanding dramatically recently, launching in India as the first phase of its expansion into emerging markets, and plans to launch next in Nigeria.
“We believe there is a similar opportunity in Nigeria, which is our next focus for expansion,” Swart told HumanIPO.
