Apple has become the latest global tech giant to release details of diversity within its workforce, demonstrating most of its employees are White and Asian men.
Releasing diversity numbers has become commonplace among tech companies of late, with Twitter, Facebook, Yahoo! and Google revealing their numbers in the past few months, all highlighting the need for transformation, with the majority of employees being White males.
Apple’s breakdown showed 54 per cent of the jobs in the United States are filled by Whites and another 23 per cent by Asians. 80 per cent of its employees globally are male.
Chief executive officer (CEO) Tim Cook said in a letter posted alongside the data he was dissatisfied with the lack of diversity and said the company was attempting to be more inclusive.
