Twitter has announced the redesign of its web platform, providing users with a visual overhaul as well as features geared towards ease of usage.

HumanIPO reported in February the social network was testing a major redesign to bring it in line with Facebook and Google+.

Twitter has initiated a number of changes on its platform this year, revamping its website and updating its Android and iOS apps.

It also introduced a feature allowing users to send images via direct messages last year.

The latest redesign provides users with a larger cover photo and increases the size of photo within Tweets.

“This new profile setup is available today to a small group of users. If you’re new to Twitter, you’ll start in with the new profile. In the coming weeks, we will roll out the new features to everyone,” the company said.

Functionally, Twitter has increased the size of Tweets that have received the most engagement and introduced a ‘pin’ function, allowing a user to select a Tweet to remain at the top of the page.

Users will also be able to select from three timelines when viewing profiles, navigating between Tweets, Tweets with photos/videos, or Tweets and replies.

The company was subjected to criticism last year after making changes to its blocking feature, allowing a blocked user to view and message the blocker.

The resulting uproar forced Twitter to reverse the changes less than a day after implementation.
