Sprout has launched its TiVi service on mobile and desktop, providing a free TV guide without the requiring users to pay a subscription fee.
Benefits to users include accurate timings for various shows and reminders via push notifications, SMS and email, as well as the ability to check in to shows and get exclusive content.
“With so many channels on television today, it has become difficult to know exactly what is showing and when it’s showing. TiVi Guide provides the TV viewer with an up-to-date lineup of programmes running on the main free TV stations in Kenya,” Sprout said in a statement.
The service further hosts user reviews, show synopses, trailers, spoiler alerts, actor profiles and interviews. According to a statement from Sprout the main aim of the services is to encourage more interaction between content providers and distributors with their audience.
“TIVI is more than just a TV guide it offers advertisers an opportunity to deliver interactive brand experiences to its audiences through polls, games, feedback, check-ins and synchronized ads,” read the statement.
The startup is a finalist for this year’s edition of Pivot East, East Africa’s premier mobile startup competition, which is set for June 25 and 26. The startup is planning on expanding the service into Uganda and Tanzania.
