The Daily News reports the port is set to limit the use of papers and face-to-face contact with clients, with those methods proving inconvenient and creating loopholes for theft and corruption.
TPA acting director of information and communication technology Phares Magesa said more banks will be incorporated into the system, with only CRDB Bank incorporated at the moment.
Some of the other targeted banks are National Microfinance Bank and Citi Bank.
“Our target is to incorporate all banks, Automated Teller Machines (ATM), point of sales and mobile phone payment systems-MPESA and Airtel Money –in the next three months,” Magesa said.
TPA was ordered by the country’s minister for Transport Harrison Mwakyembe last month to automate its payment system at the port to curb rampant theft of the public’s money.
